Question

Hi again... I'm graduating this year and I'm looking to go to a film school. I'm sure plenty of you guys have been or have some knowledge about them. Which are some of the better ones? Anywhere in the world is fine. Thanks Alot.

Are you in Ontario?? Did you do grade 13?? If so you may have missed out on a year of sitting behind a camera. I would look at Ryerson in Toronto. Or even the one year program at Vancouver Film Institute. In the US you can always go for the big names USC, NYU. There are also some good 2nd tier school like Florida State, U. of Texas, Columbia College in Chicago.

I don't always recommend film schools--Even though I went to two. I think that they can be both good and bad. Just get ready and ask yourself some serious questions about what you want to do and where you want to be in 10 years. Email me if you would like

Thank you very much for the advice Nigel. Oh and by the way I'm from Vancouver Island. And no I did not do grade 13.

If you choose to go to a "vocational" film school, I would not go to one that does not offer at least one film class.

I don't care if they offer 99 digital camera classes, if they don't offer at least one film class, in my opinion they are sheisters of the first degree.

What do you want to focus on?? Writing?? Directing?? Camera??

That will help you pick when you know that. If you don't then a good production based program will give you the chance to try all the rolls first.

    Good Luck

I can't decide if I want to write screenplays or directing. I've been thinkn both. I know this is cliche, but I kinda want to do the Robert Rodriguez thing.

If writing is what you want to do then you don't need to go to film school. Directing is another story.

I would look into the list I gave you. See what you think. I would also talk with other people and get their opinions. I can tell you as someone who went to NYU it was a great place.

    Good Luck
